How to use this online teleprompter

  1. Paste your script into the box. Break it into short paragraphs so you can find your place at a glance.
  2. Set the speed. Most people speak at 130 to 160 words per minute on camera. Start at 140 and adjust with the arrow keys while it scrolls.
  3. Move the window under your camera. Keep the browser near the top of the screen so the text sits right below the lens.
  4. Press Start. You get a three second countdown, then the script scrolls. Press Space to pause at any time.
  5. Record if you want. Turn on the camera and press the red button. The script is only on your screen, never in the video. Download the take when you stop.

Tips for reading naturally

  • Write the way you talk. Short sentences are easier to read and sound less scripted. Our guide on writing a video script walks through it.
  • Keep the text large and the column narrow, so your eyes barely move. Larger text also lets you sit further back.
  • Read a few words ahead of the arrow, not on it. That gives you time to put the emphasis where it belongs.
  • Do one practice run before you record. You will find the lines that trip you up and can rewrite them.

How do I make my eyes look at the camera?

Does it work with a teleprompter mirror or beam splitter?

Yes. Use Mirror to flip the text horizontally so it reads correctly on the glass, and Full screen to fill the display.

Is my script saved?

Your script is kept in this browser only, so it is there next time you open the page. Nothing is sent to a server.
